Do not stop taking LOPRESSOR suddenly. Stopping LOPRESSOR without your healthcare provider's guidance can worsen chest pain (angina), increase your risk of heart failure, or cause other serious heart problems. If your healthcare provider decides to stop LOPRESSOR, they will gradually reduce your dose over 1 to 2 weeks and monitor you closely.

What is LOPRESSOR?

LOPRESSOR is a prescription medicine called a beta-blocker. It is used in adults to:

  • Treat high blood pressure (hypertension)
  • Treat chest pain (angina pectoris)
  • Reduce the risk of death in patients with symptoms of, or who have had, a heart attack (myocardial infarction)
Do not take LOPRESSOR if you:
  • Have severe heart problems such as a low heart rate, heart block, or heart failure not controlled by medication
  • Are in shock caused by heart problems
  • Have low blood pressure (systolic < 100 mmHg)
  • Have a condition called sick sinus syndrome (unless you have a pacemaker)
  • Are allergic to metoprolol or any of the ingredients in LOPRESSOR
Before taking LOPRESSOR, tell your healthcare provider about all of your medical conditions, including if you:
  • Have heart failure
  • Have lung or breathing problems (such as asthma or bronchospasm)
  • Have a rare adrenal gland tumor (pheochromocytoma)
